Gantt Charts

Written by Trevor O'Sullivan | Mar 7, 2023
The Gantt Chart is a visual scheduling tool that helps to plan, coordinate, and track specific tasks in a project. Named after its inventor, Henry Gantt, this tool presents tasks or activities on the vertical axis, while the horizontal axis represents time. Each task is represented by a horizontal bar spanning the projected time frame for that task, from start to finish. Gantt Charts are widely used in project management to give teams and stakeholders a clear picture of the project timeline, dependencies between tasks, and the current status of tasks.

Origin of the Gantt Charts

The Gantt Chart was invented by Henry Gantt, an American mechanical engineer and management consultant, in the early 20th century. Gantt initially developed this tool to help in the management of large construction and engineering projects. It has since been adopted across various industries for project planning and tracking.
